Enter Theron
-365 B.C.
The room was dimly lit. The sconces on the stone walls of the temple’s interior chamber lite the room in a faded lite that casts shadows upon all the surfaces that it touched. A lone figure stood at the center of the main alter that was present on the far end of the room. The gold statue, standing a few meters tall stood behind the alter. The shining metal was formed in the shame of the Goddess Diana.
Another figure stood on the opposite side of the temple, her back towards the entrance she had just come through. She hovered for a moment, seeming to debate whether or not to disturb the thoughts of the other that stood opposite her and close to the statue.
As if sensing that there were eyes upon her, the figure at the statue turned and looked towards the entrance of the temple. No words were exchanged, just a heavy stare from both parties that inhabited the room. A tense moment passed as they viewed one another from a distance. These were troubling times and it played clearly upon the features of both.
The figure at the entrance moved forward. Coming out of the shadows, the candle lite illuminated her features. The golden locks of her hair fell loosely about her face, the cascade of curls falling well past her shoulders. The soft steps of her sandals fell on the marble floors as she closed in on the other figure. Theron walked with a sudden confidence, showing that her presence there was warranted. She would have not been there otherwise, if she had not been summoned.
Unlike her daughter, Diana had a crown of red hair. The long locks of fire were pulled behind her head, held up in a loose bun much similar to the statue behind her. The similarities between herself and the massive gold statue was uncanny. It was easy to see that the sculptor had taken the likeness directly from the figure that stood directly before it.
Finally having approached Diana, Theron stood a few feet away. The two woman were almost mirror images of one another. They both were dressed the same, Roman white robes were draped upon their slender ad petite figures. They looked of royalty and their attitudes reflected as such as they stared upon one another.
“I am here, Mother.” Theron broke the silence of the room. Soft words were spoken, there was no need for her voice to reflect the troubled looks upon their face.
In response to her daughter, Diana nodded her head slightly. “You came quickly. I had not expected you so soon.” Turning from Theron, Diana looked again at the statue behind her. Placing her hands flat upon the marble alter in front of her, she leaned forward slightly.
Theron’s features wrinkled in slight confusion. When her mother sent for her she would come in haste. Diana’s time was very precious, and to keep her waiting was something Theron would not do. Theron’s unique perspective on her mother was unlike any other. She could relate where other children might not be able to with their own mothers.
“If you wish for me to return at a later time, I can.” Turning, Theron intension to leave Diana to her thoughts were apparent. She would retreat and come back at a later time.
“No.” Diana turned, looking towards the back of Theron’s head. “Stay.”
Theron stopped and turned once more to look at her mother. She did not speak, just remaining quite as she look at Diana with curiosity. It seemed that her mother had something to say. If she were to speak, Theron was afraid she might derail her mother’s train of thought.
“Times are growing dangerous.” Diana spoke. “The others are to close.” Moving towards Theron, Diana raised her hand slowly and stroked her daughter’s cheek. “I cannot lose you...” Her voice cracked slightly as a painful thought of how she had lost another found its way into her thoughts.. Though she was a Goa’uld through and through, her hosts own feelings often found their way to the surface at times. The slip in emotion was short lived as Diana again regained control of herself. A mask of emotionless stone slipped over her features as she looked upon her daughter, her own flesh and blood. “You are far too important to be left to these predators.”
“I understand, Mother.” Theron responded, looking deep into her mother’s blue eyes. She seemed to understand what was going on even though few words had been spoken. Raising her hand, she placed it on top of Diana’s as it caressed her cheek. It was a brief touch before Theron pulled her hand away and dropped it again to her side. Soon after she felt Diana pull her own away as well.
Taking a step back from Theron, Diana studied her for a moment before speaking. “Everything has been arranged. I will accompany you, my daughter. “
Theron said nothing, her head only nodding slightly in understanding of what her mother was saying. Though this was something that she did not want to do, it was apparent for her own safety and the safety of her mother she would have to go through with what was planned. It was her hopes that she would be able to join her mother again soon.
Walking from the alter, Diana moved towards the exit. Theron followed a step behind. Left to their thoughts, the silence fell over them like a blanket. Only the soft echoes of leather soles upon marble floors sounded their retreat from the building. Into the night they both went, both headed for a destination that few knew of.
----
The cave was large, but clearly had been cut out in haste. The jagged stones stood jutted out from the walls. This was not a place of beauty like the shrine they had been it. This was a place to hide and remain hidden until the time would come again to make a presence known.
In the center of the hollowed out cave, and large sarcophagus laid. Inside that vessel laid Theron. She looked up at her mother from her recline position. As a child her mother had spoke to her of such matters as these. Though the idea was always something of only a possibility, now it was obviously a reality. Theron did not speak, she only stared up at her mother just as her mother looked down at her from the side of the sarcophagus.
Diana reached down into the stone box and lightly caressed Theron’s cheek with the back of her hand. “Sleep well. Soon enough we will be reunited.”
Taking one finally look at her daughter, Diana pulled her hand from the girls cheek. Moving that same hand, she touched the outside panels of the sarcophagus. Holding her daughters gaze, she activated the panel and watched slowly as the device began to close up on itself and seal Theron inside.
Just as the box shut, a flicker of love and also sadness played upon Diana’s features. She knew her child to be strong, but still feared the endless possibilities of what the future might possibly hold. Closing her eyes briefly, she raised her hand and placed it upon the closed container. Her fingers caressed the symbol of her briefly as she silent spoke her final goodbye to Theron.
Collecting herself, Diana opened her eyes and turned her back to the sarcophagus. She looked to the few guards that had accompanied her to the chamber. Diana held them with silent regard for a moment before raising her other hand. A Zat'nik'tel was held firmly in her grasp. Without hesitation, she fired the weapon off, killing the guards where they stood. There would only be two people that knew the location of this gave, and one of them would remain asleep inside it.
Leaving the dead guards on the ground where they fell, Diana walked the several meters to the opening of the cave. Once she found a safe distance, she turned once more and raised the Zat'nik'tel. Aiming at the opening of the cave, she fired. An avalanche of stone cascaded down the face of the mountain, sealing the entrance and hiding any trace that it had been there. The meters of rubble would keep Theron safe, Diana was sure of that.
With one last, almost regretful, glance at the hillside, she turned and walked away. There was no looking back as she disappeared into the wilderness of the planet. There was only looking forward.
