Orion, aka Jean-Francois, was sent by the goddess Diana to visit Circe and acquire some genetically engineered pets for her entertainment.
Circe smiled.
"As much as I would like the rewards promised by Diana, I'm afraid I was offered something of greater value. Namely, my life."
As if to emphasize Circe's statement, Horus marched into the room. His Jaffa were towering and huge, topping near seven feet in height not including the helmet extensionand wearing full armor which left no skin exposed. Horus himself towered close to eight feet in height. Horus was ancient ... nearly as old as Ra, and was the center of strange rumors. The voice which echoed from the armor was resonating and low, but not loud. Only the weak needed to shout their intentions.
"Greetings, young Orion. I was told that you would be coming to the witch's world to negotiate for Diana. And I took the opportunity to arrive first. Your host's allies managed to incite war between Ra and Diana's forces, and the resulting clash resulted in the ancient one's death.
This leaves a void in the power structure. I have but one question. How blindly do you follow Diana's shrill call?"
--
I can feel my host tremble at the sight of Horus and his guards, but I am Goa'uld and I tremble before no one. That said, superior power must be respected and if there is one thing I do know, it's how to tread lightly. Diana will not appreciate having been betrayed by Circe, but there is no point is spewing threats, the deed is done.
"The Tau'ri enticed, yes, but only by misunderstanding, it was my Lady's superior forces that brought down the great Ra, I am but a lowly servant to my Lady and not privy to the movements of the great System Lords such as yourselves." I bow to him, but not too low, certainly not taking my eyes from him.
--
"But Diana's forces must have taken losses themselves. Ra's might was scattered, but not inconsiderable. Is Diana vulnerable right now a concentrated attack? I suspect this might be successful. Especially if one were to have someone helping from within her inner circle. Someone who could be richly rewarded, and made a warlord of her conquered forces ... "
--
Figured as much, conquer the forces that took down Ra, Horus would be seen as great indeed. "Unfortunately, I am yet to be trusted enough to be part of her..inner circle, and as my first mission is a failure.." I eye Circe with a frown. "There is much doubt that she will let me live, should I be allowed to return to her side. You have doomed yourself if you think I could have been of any use to you now." Dumbass.
I can feel Jean bristle at the thought of being used by some giant alien and I can somewhat understand his anger at the situation, it's one thing to battle someone else in your own mind, it's something else to have to fight on two fronts. Well at least we agree on that.
"Patience is a virtue, or so the Tau'ri say, allow me to accomplish my mission and she will allow me to return to the Tau'ri, I will become closer to Diana this way and should your offer still stand..maybe you will gain more than you first anticipated." Loyalty..its just a word, I have no doubt he would use me and toss me to the vipers when he got what he wanted, but two can play that game.
--
"Circe will indeed fulfil your mission. Which should aid you achieving the good graces of Diana. And I anticipate EVERYTHING."
He knew Jean had a fraction of Diana's memories and mind. But, if she was anything like the other Goa'ould, the genetics used to make him were taken centuries earlier. Her more recent plots would unknown to him. Otherwise, he could just torture the information from Jean.
"If insinuation into her circle is unlikely, perhaps a more direct approach. Circe has a poison that can be tailored to only Diana's chemistry. Since yours is similar, you can be a carrier of the virus. The effects would not take effect until long after you'd left her company ..."
--
"I would require assurances that this poison would not destroy me as well and also.." I think a bit."I would require intelligence regarding a cache of weapons the tau'ri could plunder." My plans are ever changing, a wise man can adapt easily and be merciless in the execution.
--
Circe smiled. She loved to brag.
"The virus is engineered to specifically destroy Diana ... a MATURE goa'ould with Diana's genetics. Your youth will prevent you from suffering more than a slight and brief exhaustion. Also, it is designed to specifically INCUBATE in a sarcophogus, rather than be destroyed by it."
Horus : "The cache would be of little difficulty ... and can be left on any of a number of neutral planets. It can even be TAKEN from expendable Jaffa."
--
"You will forgive my reluctance, you betray my Lady, it would hardly seem surprising that you would betray me." I eye them both, untrusting, but if I wish to leave her in one piece, I have little choice but to take the risk.
"Very well."
--
Circe stepped forward, and handed a vial to Jean.
"I'm rather proud of this ... took quite a bit of creative genengineering. Cheers, handsome ..."
"I've not given her my word in alliance ... such a thing is earned."
--
I take the vial then eye Horus. His word, what is the word of anyone worth these days. "To betrayal." I raise the vial to Horus before drinking the potion down.
--
"My minions have gathered the pets that Diana has requested. They are crated and waiting near the gate ...."
--
Horus turned and walked from the room, flanked by his guards ...
--
Once out of the room, a shimmering was seen. The illusion generator cycled down, revealing the real culprit behind the scheme. His minions took off their ridiculous egyptian armor. How tacky.
