Again, the ready room ... the air pressurized as it adjusted to the level the 'pod' had shown on the other side. The pod had shown pollution ... and the visual had a scene of a warehouse of some sort, a long corridor about a third full with huge plastic crates. A dim light shown in the distance, and dust covered everything ... a gritty, oily dust.
Some sort of abandoned factory ... with only minimal lighting it seemed.
He put down the ipad, having read the briefing report of the pod findings and waited for the others to arrive. No cotton robes this time but rather normal clothing with a disposable rain suit over it ... to keep the dust off.
At least whoever it was had plastic ... that was a good sign. Hopefully it wasn't the snake people.
He waited patiently for the others ... not sure who was to be assigned ... popping a piece of gum and sliding an earpiece on to listen to some garth brooks. He'd lost Jean on a seemingly benign gating where he'd met Ci Ti. Had the boy gated out? Neither he nor Ci Ti had found any tracks.
--
"It's simulating the air on the other side ... some sort of nasty dirty warehouse or factory. Comes across as clean for biohazards and radiation though."
He gestured over to the stack of rain garb ...
"May wanna slip one of those clear outfits on over your clothes to keep them clean when we go through."
He stood and walked over, pouring some coffee into a sports bottle to bring with - he was tired this morning. Hadn't slept well after losing Jean. Where the hell was that kid?
--
She eyes him, uncapping her water bottle just enough to add some of the spring water to it to replace what she drank* "So, I actually get to go this time instead of being left behind like a bad little girl" *she eyes the gear on the table and grabs one of the cloacks, pulling it over her black pleather jacket *
--
He laughed.
"I myself PREFER missions with bad little girls. But I promise to be a gentleman, ma'am."
He grinned, and smiled again. Someday, someone was going to figure out the gum thing was partly because he missed chewing tobacco.
"We're supposed to have one more ...."
--
She rolls her eyes at Maxwell "Just call me Alek...im not old enough to be you're ma'am...." she slumps into a chair a few seats way from his and pops open her laptop "remind me why Im going on this mission again?" she coughs again and takes a swig from a bottle of water, preserving her canteen for the mission
--
"There could be some technology we could use. Plus, we can use a 'bounce world'. A world to use as an inbetween so we can't be tracked back to earth."
A clerk came in and said the third member had been delayed.
"Well, dynamic duo, then. Shall we ?"
He gestured toward the corridor leading to the gateroom and heading down that way through the corridor of mantrap doors.
"You know, it's not fair. Captain Kirk gets planets full of sexy green women. I want a few green women on one of these gate trips."
He winked ...
"A a few handsome green cabana boys for you, of course ..."
--
She glares at him but follows after placing her laptop back in it's pretective sleeve in her backpack for gate travel "Kirk was a womanizing idiot. He would of gotten his ass handed to him if Spock wasn't always saving him now Jean Luc Picard is a Captain."
__
They came through the last set of doors, and Max paused while the gate address was dialed up and the event horizon 'flushed' into being.
"Oh, we are going to have issues. No one told me I was going on a mission with a Next Generation girl ..."
He shook his head, mock grinning ... then popped another trident, offering her one.
"Shall we?"
He gestured to the gate ...
--
she eyes Maxwell, still not sure about him but she takes the gum he's offers her and unwraps it popping it in her mouth as she does* "Men with guns go first...." she says fingering the knife she has strapped to her upper thigh
--
He laughed lightly, and nodded ... pulling out the M32 from off his shoulder. Normally he didn't like such a big weapon, but sneaking around an alien warehouse was creepy.
"Hello Mudder, Hello Fadder ... and we're off to, Planet Grenada ..."
He stepped through the gate ...
--
She steps through the gate a split second behind Maxwell, and despite being prepared for the aridness of the planet they step on drops to her knees coughing and choking as she tries to uncap her water bottle
--
As they stepped through, Max began to cough also. It was bad. But he'd been in worse. Part of military training was purposely being exposed to nausea gas grenades. NOT something he ever wanted to repeat.
They were indeed in a dirty grimey storage room of some sort ... with plastic coated crates scattered about. The place was only about a third full.
As they regained their composure, a man came walking toward them ... a funny little man came shuffling down the dusty walkway. A funny little man, who was mumbling to himself.
"You're late. So very very late. Hurry hurry. We must get you prepared ... This air is VERY bad for you.
Maxwell merely blinked and looked at Alek to get her take of this.
--
Alek was still bent over coughing but when the man apporched she pulled her knife from it's sheath and held it in her hand ready for anything, even as she struggles to breath
--
The strange man stopped and looked at them.
"Oh, weapons. You brought WEAPONS. You must not damage anything ... fragile. So very fragile. And so alone and hard to repair. Perhaps ... yes, you can HELP repair. Yes, yes. Very good."
He pulled his hand from his pocket and a sphere landed on the filthy floor near them ... and Max began to raise his weapon.
"Grenade !!!"
But he never had a chance to flip the safety and pull the trigger on the launcher. A wave of electricity hit them, and he was instantly stunned into unconsciousness. Waves of electrical discharge continued ... and as he blacked out he knew that this must be how Darth Vader felt when shocked by the Emper ....
...
She drops to the floor as well, barely able to think enough to hope that the bag that contains her laptop is insulated enough that it wont be fried"
--
Maxwell awoke hours later, lying up a metallic table in an empty room with one incredibly bright light. He was naked ... and cold, and blinking trying to remember where he was. He staggered to his feet.
He did not know that hardly 10 feet away in an identical room, Alek would likewise be awakening. His clothing was gone. A simple jumpsuit and boots were found under the table in a plastic bag, and he reluctantly put these on. Were they prisoners? The door was partially ajar ... not much of a prison.
He stepped out the door and looked about. It was another warehouse area - with scattered but incredibly powerful lights that somehow did not seem to cause glare when looked directly at.
--
Alex awakens with a splitting headach, and not much else, she curses loudly upon realising she's nacked, *loud enough that she could be heard by someone out in the hallways probably* the realization that she should of not been so loud makes her curse again, this time under her breath as she to finds the bag of clothing near her bed and hastily pulls them on looking around for something, anything that she can use for a weapon as she ducks behind the half cracked door to wait and see if anyone heard her or not
--
Max heard the scream and turned to run to the door ... and sees the naked girl had awoken to the same circumstances as he. Aaaaaaa .... wow, nice. But .... he stepped back and waited, hearing her dressing. Wow, that was Nice.
Get your mind back on track, Edison. You've been knocked out and taken captive on an alien planet. Time to think about naked co-workers later.
"Alek ... It's Edison. You in there?"
--
She had seen him as she had been running, attempting to pull on the clothing and hide at the same time and she blushes red, she stays hidden behind the door as she finishes pulling her clothing on "Yeah, Im in here" she says muttering under her breath as she does "where the hell are we....and where the bloody f*** is my laptop"
--
The rooms they were in were relatively clean, but the warehouse was grimy like the one the gate had been in.
"I think we're still in the warehouse someplace. Can't be two places this nasty ..."
He sniffed.
"On the good side, it doesn't stink anymore. Maybe they turned on the air filtration."
He sniffed and frowned. He didn't smell anything at all, in fact.
--
"I wouldn't know" she said, not even attempting to breath in as her nose is stuffed up and her eyes are red from what ever made her cry in the
gate room "No cuts or bruises though...." she remarks eyeing him "so at least they weren't trying to hurt us I dont think but that guy was
really weird though.....said something about not damaging anything before he threw that grenade or what ever the hell it was at us"
--
"No, no. Not hurt."
The funny little man had come around the corner.
"Just had to remove weapons. Weapons can damage station. And so much in need of repair already. But now, you both can help me. Come, come. Time to work."
He began to turn and head back down the walkway.
--
She eyes the little freaky man "Im not helping you till you give me my laptop back....and my freaking clothing to you little freak" she says grabbing him when he would walk away from her
--
"Look, you creepy bastard. Where I come from we don't say hi by tossing a grenade at someone."
Well, sometimes we do. But hopefully Diana would get over being mad about that ...
"We want our gear back and want to know WHERE we are !!"
--
"Where you are? You're on the Safekeeper 12. We're an interplanetary cargo ship ... well, we WERE interplanetary. As in travelling between planets. But now we're kind of stuck between planets. So we're still interplanetary. But not interplanetary. If you know what I mean."
He grinned confusedly.
"Our fleet struck a plasma storm and we only barely survived."
--
"so you blast us with agrenade, take our clotes and stuff away from us and then you ask us for help...." she glares at the little man, or what
ever the hell he is "doesn't work like that on our planet"
--
"Please, please. I meant no harm. But I need help. So much needs repair. And ... I'm getting old."
He shook his head.
"Come ... come ..."
--
max - "So, we're on a damaged ship half way between planets. Good lord, why didn't you use the stargate to leave or get help?"
--
she glares at the little man "what he said why not use the d**ned gate to get help....."
--
"I ... don't understand. Oh, is that what you call what you came through. We're ... this ship is a cargo carrier. Our world ... was drying ... no, dying .... yes, dying ... and we had to abandon it. This ship carried art treasures ... we were behind the main fleet. We were a slower, older vessel. And we were damaged in a plasma storm. They ... never came back to us."
He sniffed, and actually looked like he might start crying.
"Then, a few hours ago, one of the containers holding ancient artifacts burst open and a sensor device came through. Then, a while later, you and Maxwell."
--
He blinked with comprehension.
"They didn't know what it was. They thought the gate was just an ancient piece of artwork ..."
