*The Schemer had been under attack endlessly it seemed of late. First the battle that nearly killed him outside of Philmont industries....then after his advanced healing devices combined with the night nurse's unique skills healed him quickly....now again outside the night nurse's sanctum. Her place had been leveled in the battle. Leaving him to flee the scene.
Llyron was being kept busy by his latest clique member....the thermotronically enhanced mutant firebug...but the new gods and others were closing in on him. He would not be captured.
He retreated into an alley in the confusion....having his loyal agent the Myst drag Lark along with them. The little twit had been on a super hero kick of late. No matter. If he could implement his latest plan, he could destroy all his foes in one swoop. But first he needed backup. Getting through the maze of streets that were overrun with dinosaurs and monster sized insects was asking far too much with said backup.*
Hard Core!! *He called out telepathically.* Hone in on my telepathic signal. I need your help!!
*He winced as he called to her. The selenium on her person made telepathic communication quite difficult. He then glanced to the myst.*
Keep her with you. *He said of lark.* If she tries to escape...knock her out.
*The myst grinned at that order. Lark got on his nerves like none other. Dealing with her would be a pleasure.*
You got it boss. *The myst stated flatly then asked.* So what's the Scheme this time??
Either of you ever hear of the Philadelphia experiment?? I'm going to use that rid myself of my traitor children and as many of current foes as possible!!
--
Lark goes along with her father in this case because she is scared to death of the Myst. He hurt her badly last time he attacked her. But she can use the situation to learn of her father's latest scheme & maybe talk him out of it. That is the job of an agent of justice.
"You know daaaaaadeeee. You have an unhealthy amount of rage in you. That can cause all sorts of health issues. Now I was watching doctor Phil the other day and he said when people get all angry they need to express it in a healthy manner.
We should do what he suggests. We can get Hard Core, Masque, all your children and all your enemies together. Then we should all slip into a big hot tub and share our feelings. It will clear the air and you will feel much better! Really It works! I saw it when he was on Oprah. Otherwise we might all end up like one of those weirdo families on Jerry Springer."
Myst yanks her forward and she smirks at him. "Alright I am coming!" She listens to her father and thinks hard about the Philadelphia thing. She knows about that. She raises her hand as if asking for a teacher to call on her with an answer to a question.
I know! the Philadelphia Experiment! I know! I know! That just happened! That is when the Eagles traded McNabb to the Redskins, right!"
She has an ultrasonic note to her words. She is hoping her favorite sister Charlene, or Masque or somebody will pick it up and will follow it to the source.
--
Winston kept escaping her.
First they'd trapped him out side the Towers where she and Llyron...the incredibly handsome and brilliant Prince...had nearly had him. Then after falling down a hole and a massive pile of debris upon him, which should have crushed him to death, he had survived.
Making his way to the night nurse to be healed, he'd thought no one would find out but someone did and the ensuing battle had been enough to catch her attention, her contacts telling her what she needed to know.
Masque had figured the Schemer wouldn't die off that easily, and maybe she might have had a brief moment of relief for the father of her two oldest children's survival. Right before she got all angry again at him trying to have them all killed.
There were giant bugs and dinosaurs still wandering around and Masque made a note to give Roddy a good smacking for that mess as she tried to make her way through the warrens of alleys to get the the scene of the recent battle.
She'd been unable to find anyone else, but Masque figured her ex-lover had to be running out of allies by now. If she could get to the scene, maybe she could track his scent in her wolf form. She could take him on in a one-to-one situation.
But she didn't' have to, she heard Lark's voice, that little man thief, hollering about something. Philadelphia Experiment? Masque had no idea what that was, but it couldn't be good. Nothing Winston ever did was, except for the children he'd given her.
Following the sound of lark's voice, the massive black wolf that was Masque crept up to the trio in their hiding place.
--
... the WBN staff was safely tucked away, mutants and all...and she quickly makes her way back to the surface. On my way, darling.
She mutters to herself as she reaches one of the ground level access hatches to get back up to the street level. She slips a mask on, easing the selenium chip a bit farther away from her head temporarily...putting it in her hand to keep it away from her head temporarily so she could so more easily. She could feel him moving and began to make her way there, watching for other dangers that may attempt to find him first.
As per usual, she was starting to get that increasingly nagging feeling that he was about to do somethingstupid.
She shakes her head a bit hearing the mention of the Philadelphia Experiment...and snickers a bit at Lark's rendition of it. She let herself drift down to her feet as she noticed the black pregnant dog approach, and simply guesses on who that could be...though, her sister was capable of such, she preferred felines.
"What are you babbling about now, dear?"
--
Charlie sighed as she made her way toward the scene of the battle that was still being waged in the middle of the city. It wasn't as full scale as it was before, but she could still see some dinosaurs and huge insects running around. But right now all she cared about was making sure that her brother had survived the impact he'd made in the hopes of stopping their father. She hadn't wanted to come back here, but she wanted to see for herself that he was okay before leaving town for good.
There was no sign of him as she looked over the area, but she stopped short when she saw a massive black wolf nearby. She swallowed around a lump in her throat as she watched it make it's way through the alley that she was currently occupying. That's when she heard Lark. Philadelphia Experiment? What the hell was that? So her father was still alive and on the verge of launching another scheme. What a surprise.
--
*the Schemer raised his hand to his brow as if warding off a headache as Lark spoke. Shaking his head and simply groaned in response...before going into more detail.*
No, you're not right, you trendy twit!! If not for the fact you are adopted...you would certainly be considered the dutch elm disease of my family tree. Read a d**n book will you! Stop watching that idiot box and the celebrity rags for the love of heaven!
*He was about to explain the situation in full to her....when Hard Core arrived.*
I do not babble my dear. I speak quite plainly. I am genius after all. *At least Hard Core was fairly intelligent....for a lesser mind...so getting her to understand would be far easier than getting through to his insipid adopted child.*
You recall the device that we used to return from the 1940s in our recent visit to that past time my dear, Hard Core?? It was the Philadelphia experiment. A device my grandfather worked on back in the war. It was intended to make ships invisible to the naked eye...and radar. Instead...it turned out to be a device that allowed objects or people to transverse time. With it...I can return to the past and alter the present....ridding myself all of who oppose me in the present. For you see..............
*He stopped as Myst interrupted him.* Holy crap!!! Look!! *He was pointing up....and south of his position.*
What is so important that you would interrupt my explanation, fool!! What could be......
*the Schemer turned to look and his jaw dropped open in shock.*
What the devil!!! *Turning to look....Myst had guided his attention to the empire state building....on the top of which was giant spider. From the distance they were away....and it clearly had to be a hundred feet tall.*
Unbelievable!! the growth energizer....it must be effecting that species differently!!
--
Skylark hears Charlene and Masque's approach. They have heard her subsonic signal. Skylark has done it again! She has so aced this hero business.
She ignores her father's complaining about her. She has learned to tune him out over the years. He is always so angry. Why he will not try the hot tub idea is beyond her. It is from doctor Phil. He is a doctor. He knows things.
She listens to the Schemer's latest crazy plan and when Charlene and Masque are ready she will help take down her nasty father. Then people will love her for saving the city. People will love her for stopping the worlds greatest criminal. They make statues of her. They will sings songs about her.
"Lovely brunette hair. Sexy beyond compare! It's Skylark!"
She will be so loved. But she has to put those plans on hold when Myst points out the giant spider. She hates spiders but she looks at the brightside of it being on the empire state building.
"At least with that up there it will keep the gorillas off."
--
Unable to help growling after Schemer explained his plan, for she knew all too well what her fate would be in that scenario, the wolf bunched her muscles, ready for an attack, intending to leap upon Schemer and claps her jaws around his throat.
Then the Myst distracted him, pointing, and the wolf couldn't help looking, eyes widening at the massive spider. It would take a giant can of bug-spray to get rid of that one.
Masque looked back to Schemer, figuring maybe he was afraid of spiders and having seen the giant spider, she thought she could duplicate it, so she changed from wolf to spider, intending for a match to the one atop the Empire State.
Only, she hadn't been hit with the growth ray or whatever, and so she just turned into your ordinary, run of the mill spider, nearly crushed under the sudden rush of feet as they all looked to the huge arachnid.
Quickly, she returned to her human state, swearing at her mistake, then narrowing eyes at the Schemer, before edging away from that tramp of a fiance he had now. She was flaunting that child just to make Masque mad. And it would work too, if only Masque wasn't more terrified of the brute of a woman.
--
"I remember, darling. I do have a few college degrees as well and have studied history." She shakes her head a bit at Lark, wondering what thoughts would be traveling through the vapidity of space found between her ears.
Then at Myst interrupting the Schemer's speech, thankfully, she looked at the Empire State Building.
"Orkin Man...seriously, there should be a hero with that sole purpose of giant insect control. I'll have to look into funding something like that."
She barely notices the shewolf change into a shewolf-spider, tempted to stomp on it before it changes back to yet another clingy poisonous black widow of sorts. "Thought it was you..."
"You know...even going back in time won't erase our memories of large insects or dinosaurs, though I wouldn't mind being rid of those memories...and the pests themselves."
--
As Charlene edged closer she noticed the wolf turn into a spider and blinked. When it turned into Masque she was not surprised. When her father explained the experiment a surge of anger washed over her, along with an aching sadness. He wanted her to be erased completely. It wasn't much of a surprise, but it still hurt.
She noticed the gigantic spider and wondered why the others were so shocked. Who knows what else was going to turn up giant sized because of the idiotic way they used the ray to mature the dinosaurs?
Charlie hastily wiped the tears away and decided it was time to go find her brother so she could tell him goodbye.
--
*the Schemer was forced to concur with Hard Core. Going into the past had its downside...but the potential rewards were hard to ignore. Still...she was right. they had to get rid of that spider...and others like it. If they laid eggs....the entire country could be overwhelmed.*
Very well....we'll.....
*He paused and masque made her arrival in their midst.*
Backstabbing bimbo!! You turned against the father of your own children for that waterlogged loser, Llyron!! I should......*He paused....reconsidering.* No...we can't fight...not now. We need to work together my dear. Consider....the city is empty save for a few heroes and the national guard. They are busy containing the dinosaurs and huge insects. This city is ripe to be plucked.
*He grinned devilishly at the instant adjustment in his Scheme.*
I will forget my plans....and in return....we can loot the city. Take all you can carry. Furs.....money....jewels...rare art!!! It's all here for the taking!! What say you masque?? Lark??
*He caught a mental whiff of Charlene nearby.* Come back her, dear. We're going to make you rich beyond your wildest dreams...then you stay leave...it's up to you, darling girl.
*He glanced at Hard Core.* I'll summon Gino. He can remove that thing off the building for us. And with the money we'll loot from Manhattan...we can keep that lizard in fish for years.
*He tapped a button on his omniblaster cane....one that released an ultrasonic signal that Gino would here and respond too. It was akin to a dinner bell.*
--
He heard the bell and knew it was time for him to make his mark on the city that hunts him after he had saved it many times. He had slept in the harbor and came right out of the water. Roaring a loud window shattering roar.
Slowly making his way to land stepping on the land with one foot. His size and weight caused a tremor. One that could be felt by anyone in that area.
--
Jewels? Money? Furs? She likes this scheme. It is better than the map on her butt scheme to be sure. That reminds her how itchy the tramp stamp she has recently added feels. She has to remember not to itch or she will ruin it.
Gino. She knows of him. She has never seen the big lizard but she has read about him in the clique's list of agents files. She keeps up on stuff like that in case some hot guy joins the group. Good. Let him kill the spider. She can grab some stuff to make up for her father cutting off her allowance.
"Assuming I say yes, daaaaaaaaadeeeee. Will you start paying my weekly money again? With a raise? Ten thousand barely cuts it in this economy."
Myst still holds her tight and she is sick of it. She will get free of him now. She reaches back trying to grab him where it will hurt the most. She feels around but finds the wrong spot.
"Wow! Big!" She cannot dwell on that. She reaches lower and gives a hard squeeze. Myst screams and releases her.
Ok now! These evil plans are going to stop! Unless I am included! Now everyone is under arrest unless I get a nice cut of this deal!
--
Nodding to Adrianna, she nodded and forced a smile. “You're looking...” Fat, oh how she wanted to say fat. But Masque didn't have a death wish.. “well.” She eyed that belly and then turned her attention to Schemer.
Masque rolled her eyes as Winston started in on her, the same litany over and over. All the awful things he'd done to her in their relationship and after, and it was always she who was at fault. She was already preparing her counter-argument, her own list of things he'd done to her, when he stopped mid-yell.
Blinking at him a minute, caught off guard, Masque listened. Work together? That had its own risks, but he did have a point. There was practically no one to stop them.
Her greed glittered in her eyes as she thought of all those jewels. They were already calling her name, and Masque nodded, shelving her plans for killing Winston, and that winged, singing airhead. Him for a whole host of things, her for trying to steal Llyron. “Alright, I'm in for the moment.”
She watched Schemer summon the giant lizard, thinking, Yeah another dinosaur is just what we need right now. Still, at least this one was nominally under control. Maybe he could take out the other giant bugs after he was done with the King Kong spider.
Blinking at Lark as she molests the guy behind her, Masque arches a brow as she places everyone under “arrest” and she can't help it, Masque starts laughing.
--
She grins a bit at the notion of her favorite pet being unleashed on the insects as well as the giant spider. "Lark, if you'd stop spending every penny and started saving, you wouldn't have an issue with money. Of course, if you'd get a job that actually pays you to be on your feet...instead of tips from being on your ass, you'd probably be doing a lot better." She smirks, then glances towards Masque and simply nods.
"Massive rushes of thievery during chaos...I like it. Simple, and direct."
Then she hears Skylark and shakes her head. "Darling, I think your daughter has hit her head a few times...something rattled loose. Arrest us? Really?"
--
Of course he knew she was here. But she wasn't going to go on this little looting spree with them. There was only one thing she really wanted right now and she knew that she would never get it. So it was time to leave. She took one last look at them all before she took off. The speed at which she moved lifted a gust of wind and dust that blew back toward the group as she left them behind.
--
It's not her fault my dear. *The Schemer said concerning Lark.* I'm quite certain her parents had the swing set facing close to the house when she was a child.
*He chuckled at his own attempt at humor....and smiled as he saw that the dint of coin easily swayed potential foes to his side once more. Ahhhh money...the great cure all.*
Of course you're in my darling Lark....no need to arrest us. *He said speaking to her like the simplistic child that she was in truth. He then turned his attention to Hard Core.*
I thought you'd like it. And I could use the money to help repair the damage to Philmont industries. Why take it out of company profits??
*Next he addressed, Masque. No my dear. You won't be working with me....but rather....for yourself. We'll each take a section of the city...and loot it. That way...there'll be no double cross from any of us.
*He sighed hearing Charlene's thoughts of flight.*
Masque...would you be so kind as to fetch her. She can work with you...and not have to be anywhere near me. She'll likely go for that. And with her super speed....she can help you loot your area quicker.
*Meanwhile...Gino was preparing to engage the spider.*
Let us away...I'd rather be elsewhere when those behemoths clash.
--
Breathing a sigh of relief that Adrianna didn't seem to be in a throttling mood today, she continued chuckling at the lack-witted adopted daughter of her ex a moment.
Quietly, Masque listened to Schemer lay out his plan, nodding with that gleam in her eyes at the gems that she would collect. “I like that idea.”
Arching a brow at Schemer's request, Masque snorted. “Not a chance. I am not going to chase after another of your retarded daughters. Or share my part of the city with her. Which had better be something good like Fifth Avenue.”
Nodding, with a glance at the fight of the giant animals, she moved away with them.
Meanwhile, Luciano, her son, had awoken in one of his mother's brothels, something nagging at him. He got up, cursing the pre-cog he'd been “gifted” with, still not sure how the powers of his two parents had combined to create what he had.
The feeling tugged at him and he made his ways to the destroyed area, just in time to watch Charlene rush past, and suddenly knew she needed his help. “Hey..” he called out, and followed her.
--
She watches Masque leave, heading uptown, figuring she'd want the loot of the shiny sparkly persuasion.
She waited until she was almost out of sight before looking back to her darling. "So, now that the distractions are away...about your little notion of going back in time to prevent certain children from being born. What exactly had you intended to do to prevent them?"
She rubs her stomach lightly, thinking that it may have been wise to use genetic samples from one of the clones...though, his current body wasn't much more than a copy of his original.
--
She only caught a glimpse of the young man who called out to her as she blurred past him. She probably wouldn't have noticed him if the city was not in a state of national emergency. There weren't many "normal" people on the streets right now. She was several blocks away when she heard him call out to her. She debated on continuing on her way. But she was curious. She was in front of him in moments. Her All Star Converse skidding to a stop on the sidewalk. She gulped again. But not out of fear this time. He was... rather hot. And she groaned inwardly because she knew she was a mess with her tear-stained cheeks and her hair a wild mess. But that was not what she should be focusing on right now. She gave herself a mental shake and hurriedly looked around.
"You might want to get out of the streets. Unless you want to be some dinosaur's dinner."
--
Llyron was being kept busy by his latest clique member....the thermotronically enhanced mutant firebug...but the new gods and others were closing in on him. He would not be captured.
