Remo Williams
aka
The Destroyer
The series is about Remo Williams, a Newark cop framed for a crime and sentenced to death. His death is faked by the government so he can be trained as an assassin for CURE, a secret organization set up by United States President to defend the country by working outside the bounds of the Constitution. The sitting US President and the head of CURE are the only other people that know about the organization (over the years this circle of people has increased slightly). The head of CURE is Harold Smith, a man selected by the President because of his brilliant mind but more importantly, because of his integrity. Smith was a former law instructor at Yale and served in the Office of Strategic Services during World War II.
Remo's trainer is Chiun, a deadly assassin and the last Master of Sinanju. Over the years, Remo and Chiun's relationship has transformed from student-teacher to son-father. It's also been discovered over the years that Remo is the avatar of Shiva, as prophesied in the legends of Sinanju.

First Appearance: Created: The Destroyer (Destroyer #1, 1971)
History: When Remo Williams served in Viet Nam he gained a reputation for being the man you sent in to clean out the enemy single handedly. He was a stone killer, cold and ruthless as he needed to be when the occasion called for it. After finishing his tour of duty, he became a police officer, where he served with distinction...until he apparently murdered a drug dealer. The trial seemed wrong somehow - a good cop kills a known criminal lowlife. Maybe he should have done time, but there was no way he should have got the death sentence, nor had his appeals squashed so swiftly. In mere months, with ridiculous haste in a system where it normally takes years before sentence is carried out, Remo was sent to the chair.
Remo awoke after his execution to find himself the unwilling recruit of the U.S. government's most secretive organisation, CURE. It was their job to deal with the kind of threats posed by people with influence, money and power, the types of enemies of the state who normally could wriggle out of any trouble because of their connections. CURE needed an enforcement arm, and because of his Nam record, Remo was it. Remo Williams was going to be the Eleventh Commandment: thou shall not get away with it. He had been framed, and his death faked, to provide CURE with a man without a past; and if he refused to co-operate, then he would be a man without a future either. Far from happy with this turn of affairs, Remo agreed to work for them.
He was put into the capable hands of the Korean master assassin Chiun, who trained him in the ways of Sinanju, the "sun source" art from which all other fighting skills were derived, and which was far deadlier than any of them. After a while he and Chiun formed an almost familial bond, with Remo referring to his mentor as "Little Father". Chiun for his part came to believe that Remo was the fulfillment of an ancient prophecy (or else he would not have trained him in Sinanju), and that he was the living incarnation of Shiva, the Destroyer God of Hindu mythology.

Some abilities :
Blinding Touch
The Martial Artist must touch the special pressure point on the victim's forehead, causing temporary blindness.
Body Control : Suspension
This Art allows the Martial Artist to slow down vital processes of the body to feign death, conserve on air, etc. Toxins can be slowed within the body.
Chi Focusing
This Art allows the Martial Artist to focus all of his/her chi-energies into one single physical action.
Forgetfulness
Hypnosis may only be used for suppressing selective memories from a subject by pressing a certain nerve in the throat and speaking which memories are now forgotten. This Art allows the user, by combining acupuncture and mesmerism, to suppress certain memories in the victim of this maneuver.
Hand of Death
Instead of attacking the victim every phase, this Art attacks the victim an hour after being touch by the Hand of Death and every hour afterwards. The famed Death Touch or Dim Mak. The victim may not even know that their nervous systems is breaking down because the Artist must only touch the person to initiate this diabolical attack.
Immovable Stance
Pain Ignorance
The Artist with this ability has such a good control over his nervous system and pain tolerance that pain from physical damage may be ignored to a large extent.
Pressure Points
Touching certain points on the human body, this ability causes paralysis in the victim.
Surrounding Awareness
This ability simulates the Artists ability to sense variations in the energy fields of all things, living or un-living, and thus simulate the effect of any of the above sensorial powers.
Water-running
Power is only usable to run on water, using normal land movement speed. This powerful and rare ability enables the Artist to move with such speed and grace that running on water becomes a possibility. Any land movement power or ability may be utilized on water as if it was solid ground.
The 'Steps'
All masters of Sinanju are taught the steps required to bring women to sexual fulfillment. But just how many steps are there? The most popular belief is that there are thirty two steps in the program - but the little known fact is that there are actually three different programs.
Remo has learned three separate techniques: One takes twenty seven steps, another takes thirty seven steps, and the final one uses fifty two steps. The problem Remo has with these techniques, is that all the fun has been taken out of sex for him. He has rarely found a woman that can last beyond step twelve. The women of Sinanju require the entire fifty two step program. Remo believes that this is because they are so, well, ugly.
Chiun has warned Remo to never use the fifty two step system on "normal" women, as it will drive them insane. So of course Remo asks Chiun what the use is in learning the fifty two step method. Remo then states that if he can not use it on a woman, he is "sure as h*ll is not going to use it on a man." Chiun replies "Must you always be so disgusting?"
