Jean Paul Spingarn
Jean Paul's real name is unknown to him. He was Director of an entertainment company in the far flung future. His company was charged with creating 'historical reinactments' on the planet of Talasker. The planet was sectioned off into sections ('frames') which were loosely and not often not overly accurately based on historical events in human history.
Both convicts and 'actors' would be sent into the frames, their memories wiped and replaced with 'inserts'. 'Inserts' are false past lives and memories. They would assume these roles, unaware of their true identities.
For years the man who would become Spingarn served as director. Longevity bestowing drugs allowed long service to his corporation. But, as often happens, he grew bored. But there was nothing to do ... if he gave up being Frame Director, what else could he do?
Then diversion came from an unexpected avenue. A time travelling alien arrived on Talasker. 'Spingarn' discovered it and, instead of destroying it as he should have, he gave it a frame of it's very own to design.
But the alien was ambitious. Soon, it was corrupting frame after frame, until Spingarn managed to stop it, confining it to it's original section. But it's actions had been discovered authorities, as was Spingarn's involvement. Spingarn was forced to flee.
He fled in the last place they expected, into the frames themselves ... his brilliance with computers allowed him to shuffle from frame to frame without being memory wiped. However, with each shift, his true memories became more and ore clouded as he used 'insert' after 'insert' to gain the skills to survive in the harsh, primitive environs.
Eventually he forgot who he was entirely. The corporate hounds set to find him had finally thought of searching the frames. It was during his last shuffle, while he was in the role of a french mercenary, that they managed to turn off the 'salvation program' (which would normally have whisked him out of a deadly situation).
He only barely managed to escape true death, and managed to remember the 'timeout' command, which pulled him totally out of the frames and back to Frame Control.

Attributes :
Physically impressive, his race having long since genetically engineered their people. Even among his race, he is a brilliant intellect. He is highly resistant to disease (having been immunized to nearly any disease in history), and extremely long lived.
Tech Skills : He has phenomenal computer skills. However, he is limited in his hardware skills ... why bother learning that when the IT robots were easy to call in? He has impressive manipulative skills in conversation, and is highly skilled in administration ... he has had decades of practice.
He is a polyglot, speaking and reading dozens of languages, though his accent is often based on historial media clips.
His tech skills, however, had annoying foggy patches ... the result of his long years of frame use. His skill is more intuitive than true memory.
Non Tech skills : His memories in this regard are from his last 'insert', that of Jean Paul Spingarn. He is a highly skilled in sword, savate, and use of flintlock weapons. He is a masterful equestrian and moderately skilled in cannon use and siege mining. He is a fair connoisseur of french wine, women and song.
He has an irrational fear of darkness and rats, which he strives to overcome. This after being trapped in a french siege tunnel.
(This character is loosely based on The Probability Man by Brian Ball)
He has cybernetic implant ports on his forehead and the base of his spine. They resemble very slight scars, but in actuality can be used to 'jack in' data ports, used for downloading 'inserts' or in his former life as director, to enter VR.
Having a flare for the dramatic, he would often use data jacks in the form of demonic horns and attach a fully functional tail to the base of his spine. Prosthetic ear pieces completed the ensemble.
None of these ports are in use, nor usable by jacks other than those of his own people (unless the doctor creates some sort of adaptor).
His memory issues can be compared to those of Arnold in Total Recall ... his personality much different from that of his former self.
