Apollo
Rome, the greatest and oldest city known to man. History had played it's role and but the Roman spirit never dies. Some say when in Rome, do as the Romans do, but for Apollo it was never that easy. Apollo was a very lucky young man, he grew up in a prestigious family of Soldiers that dated back to Ancient Rome.
His lineage was a family of warriors, each generation had played within the ranks of Commander or General. His father was a Commander, and was a valued and respected man of combat. He was known for his bow and arrow and in honor of his favored god Apollo, he named his son in tribute. Apollo grew up, and his father would not relize how close to the god he was in some ways.
Apollo wasn't like other boys growing up, they would make wooden swords and shields and battle each other in combat. And when they died in their imaginary combat, Apollo would come in and wrap their heads with bandages, and they would all laugh and have fun. But as the years progressed his friends grew upward and outward to the great army of Rome, but not Apollo, Apollo would stay at home even though his father thought it best for him to take up arms, he knew his son was different, there was a different purpose for him.
He decided to study herbalism and healing, and that is precisely what he did. He would visit the tower of the oracle once a week and have the wise men share their collected knowledge on plants that grew in the royal gardens. He would walk with them and listen to their words as his beautiful white robe trailed gently along the grass, his bare feet brushing the sparkling blades of green grass, and the air of Rome would whisper across his lips as he spoke with the wise men and their great knowledge.
He was soon happy to find out that by studying hard he had gained the favor of the oracles, and was deemed a fine student, and in that was prepared to find work to further his career. The General was informed of the clandestined boy, and was at first leary of him because his father said he did not wish to be a soldier, but once he learned the boy had a passion for his craft he could not refuse him to work with his skill, and sent a summons for him to work at the Vitella estate, they had the greatest garden in Rome, to care for the flowers in the estate both inside and outside.
He received the summons and collected his supplies, his books, and all of his posessions moving out of his father's home and heading across the city to the great Vitella estate. It was sunny and beautiful out, the sun and Apollo's gaze was creeping from the meridian height of the mid day, and he was heading inside the estate that in itself looked like a palace...his bare feet touching the stone floor, his white robes flowing gently in the breeze as his eyes looked around in wonder, this was his new home...a smile on his face as the servants brought his possessions in and carried them to his new quarters. As he walked the sunlight poured down over the silk white thin robe he wore...a shadow of every inch of his body peeking through the gaze of the fabric as his fingers reached out, touching plants looking at them quietly.
Kerina
Kerina was a fine woman. Elegant on the outside, her family one of the most wealthy in all of Rome. Her husband was a renowned former General, Emissary to Lusitania. Having only recently returned and days but since the grand party that had lit every nobleman and woman's tongue a fire with how grand it had been. Kerina was quite the wife indeed, elevating her husband's name higher, and herself in the process.
Truth be told Kerina and Victor's marriage was nothing of the happiness and joy it should be, she was often fighting with him, and he with her, pushing the other's buttons. However, appearances were appearances, and on the outside, they held such an affectionate touch, wonderful villa, and exquisite gardens, gardens which needed attended to.
Yes, Kerina had spent Victor's money on many fine things, including plants from all over the world, displayed, everything ornate.
Kerina was dressed in fine rich colors as the cloth hung about her figure, her fine dress a showcase of the latest in fashion of Rome. She approached young Apollo and tossed open her arms, giving him a hug and an appropriate kiss to each of his cheeks. The happy glitter in her eyes was fake, but well done. She doubted if anyone ever truly knew what she was thinking, all save for Victor who had made it his life's ambition to learn his wife, and learn her well.
"Young Apollo, welcome! You are most honored guest here, and must forgive my husband's lack of attendance, I fear he attends to important business at the Forum."
Apollo
He looked up at Kerina as he was barraged with a wave of hugs and kisses to the cheeks and looked up into her eyes his cheeks turning a bright red as he smiled shyly to her. "Hello..." He said clearing his throat looking down a moment, peeking up into her eyes and then cleared his throat chewing on his lower lip a moment. As he stood there he moved his hands behind his back, his pelvis pushing forward a hair, the shadow of his outline of body underneath the white robe shadowed through even more so as he took a deep breath and looked up into her eyes.
"I am...hello..." He said looking into her eyes a moment, he was an odd boy, he was always invited to parties and never attended, many thought he didn't attend because his father was embarrassed that he was not a soldier, others did not realize he was the most shy person in the noble ring of Rome. He looked quietly down at her body a moment...his hand moving out touching her stomach as his fingers ran down the fabric of her dress. "That is the most beautiful dress I have ever seen..."
He said clearing his throat then pulling his hand away, his cheeks turning a bright red as he looked up into her eyes. "I am sorry, I should ask before I touch...is that silk?" He said about to ask more about it but then spoke again. "I should find my room and begin working for you, I am not here to have fun, my father said that if I do not earn my keep here I will dishonor myself and my father and be looked at poorly among Rome twice...once for not taking up swords, and twice for not serving my duty at home..." He said with a wince to his eyes looking down.
He then looked up into her eyes clearing his throat. "Do you know what...it's like...to try your hardest to make someone love you...but no matter how hard you try...they don't." He obviously talking about his father as he looked down with a sigh.
Kerina
Kerina stood as stoic as ever, her eyes gazing to the eyes of the young Apollo as he stood there, blushing away from the powerful woman. She found a bit of humor in it, though she certainly moved not to press upon the young man. Her eyes glimpsed down as Apollo made touch of her dress, the silk. She held a bit of question on her eyes as he commented of her dress. She smiled.
"Thank you Apollo." she replied," It is quite alright and yes, it is infact silk, brought in from the finest makers in all of Rome." she commented.
"Yes, of course." Kerina replied, making motion with her hand towards the room set aside for young Apollo. Certainly his father's request came as an odd one, to give chance to the young Antonius to prove his worth upon their gardens.
"Young Apollo, you are not a servant in this house. What you do is your own, as long as you keep life from flight of our exquisite gardens."
Kerina was a bit older than Apollo, a bit wiser, the last thing she wanted was for him to be as a slave around her. They had plenty of those already.
She brought her hand up, gently tipping Apollo's chin up as she brought his eyes to hers and offered him a consoling smile.
"I do. Every day such blessing falls upon me." she replied, regarding trying to make someone love and finding but naught in return.
Apollo
He looked up into her eyes for a moment, she said she knew everyday what it was like, and he looked down a moment, then looked back up into her eyes and he leaned in, giving her a gentle kiss on the left cheek and then one on the right, and then a soft peck on her lips. "Thank you Mistress Kerina..." He said looking into her eyes a moment, his big brown eyes blinking as he looked at her. "I was afraid I'd be a servant, my father would like nothing better than me to be a pesant...but...I want to help people...it's my calling..." he said sighing looking down.
He stared at the floor a moment more then swallowed nervously clearing his throat and ran his hands down his robes. "I am sorry that I do not have fancy robes to wear....it appears that due to my office as a healer I am sworn until my apprenticeship ends...to where these rediculously thin white robes...I feel like I am almost naked in them...I feel kind of fat..." He said running his hands down his stomach for a moment, then looked up into Kerina's eyes.
"Tell me what do you do to keep fit, I want a figure like yours...I mean...manly...but attractive..." He spoke as he ran his fingers up through his hair, feeling sweat collecting on the edge of his hair line from the heat of the day, his eyes looking into Kerina's as he spoke, and then moved across the room, looking at his bed, and his closet and then to a tub by the window...smiling as he pulled the shutters open to the air outside coming in, a cool shade and breeze rolling into the room as he looked down at the tub...then over to Kerina.
"Perhaps sometime you would let me prepare you a bath Mistress Kerina...I have learned of herbal baths that can pull toxins from the skin...and bring out a glow and health to the body...a smoothness to the skin...making you feel as smooth as the oil of olives..." He said with a smile, he had nothing to give his new Mistress, except knowledge.
Kerina
Kerina was a bit surprised by Apollo's display of affection, kissing her, and then making motion to her form, and his. Her mind was analyzing him, but she kept such a charming exterior, one which hid the dark serpent within her. She paused by the door as she watched young Apollo take survey of room. Her head tilted slightly as she smiled some. "I fear that I find much items to keep me in fit these days, attending to this house is one of them." she replied with a glimpse towards the tub and then back over to him.
"Indeed. Perhaps something to pull evil spirits from my husband also." she smiled at him, giving one last look to him before she tilted her head.
"I shall leave you to get settled in young Apollo, I have many things to attend to while Victor is gone for the day. Please, make yourself at home, if you need of anything, one of the servants will bring it to you." she added, calmly taking her leave now.
