Anori
Anori was among the marketplace, walking, gazing amongst the wares being peddled as she caught glimpse of one, one she'd spent some time with in the past. Her lips curled to a grin as she meandered her way towards him, once within but arms grasp she laughed with great delight.
"Lucius Decius, it is you!" she smiled broadly, her eyes held but for his as the deep red dress was adorned about her body, fine beads and jewels crested every so far to adorn her elegant, certainly a goddess never looked as beautiful. A think sheer of fabric upon her head, resting, covering her as appropriate but never hoping to masque the beauty that peered out from it with a large smile towards the soldier.
Lucius
Lucius had spent the last few months on a campaign, his men were victorious naturally, they had fought hard and were now enjoying the spoils of war. Lucius made sure that his men could have some leisure time, He had only been in Rome for a few days tops, He was dressed in a simple garments, nothing too fancy. He was in the marketplace, looking at various wares these merchants were peddling. He was looking for noting in paticular, the wares had not changed much from the last time he was in Rome, which he could not remember off the top of his head. He did have his sword sheathed and hanging from his belt. Once a soldier always a soldier was the motto.
He was oblivious to the people around him, which meant that nobody suspicious was near him he heard his name and felt the hand of someone, he turned around and his expression immediatly brightened as he saw a Goddess stand before him.
"Anori?" he said surprised but you could see it was a pleasent surprise it radiated in his eyes. "How are you?" He asked as he hugged her. "How is your family, are they well?" His family had been friends with hers as long as he could remember, even though he came from a rich family he worked his ass off to acquire the position he now has. His men were loyal to him, word was men fought to be under his direct command. He looked at her and she was just beautiful no ifs ands
or buts about it, that thing had not changed. He remembered in their youth he vowed that Poets would write of her beauty long after they were both gone.
Anori
Anori smiled as Lucius embraced her, she placed a kiss to each of his cheeks with a broad smile. Placing her hands on his arms as she stood with him, radiant smile as always, such a twinkle in her eyes as she bowed her head slightly.
"The gods bless me this day, and all of Rome. I had not heard of your arrival back in the city. How long have you been here?" she asked curiously, smile forming on her lips still.
"My father is well. He remains behind in Capri, overseeing the Villa there. He continues to speak of nothing but politics, typical Senator I suppose." she smiled largely, taking a step to side, though coiling her arm with his as she glimpsed him over and smiles again.
"You look well, I take it your campaign in the North was profitable?"
Lucius
He smiled at her, his lips did not smile but his eyes, he was not frowning either but he did smile at her at her praises of him "You are too kind Anori it is the gods who bless me this day, by the sight that they have behold me" He smiled but then continued "I arrived in Rome 2 days ago" he told her, he listened to her give him the updates on her father, The senate had alot to contend with these days, Such was the duty of a Roman Senator in the vast Roman Empire.
When asked about the campaign he smiled proudly "Yes it was very profitable, I am sure Caesar will be pleased with the results not only in the riches but the expansion of his glorious empire, They put up little struggle" He looked about him and then back to Anori "Tell me what have you been up to? Has your father brought you any Suitors?" He knew that would only lead to trouble, He had not taken a wife, a wife of a soldier of his caliber would need a woman of special notability and special reckoning, one who would write sonnets about for years and decades to come. He then listened to what she would have to say in reply to his question. Time stopped for him, The skies were blue, the air warm. The gods were kind to him today
Anori
Anori nodded to him, captured by his every word, listening to the renowned General speak of his campaign. She nodded again, this time with a larger smile. She paused in path, turning to face him once more before she nodded.
"My dear Lucius, we must celebrate then! You must come by the villa, and tell me of your battles." she told him, her eyes lingering on his, she was quite the Roman woman. Such a gentle touch, scent of flowers, skin as soft as silk. She held a more humored smile as he asked of her suitors. She shook her head slightly, "You more than any should know there are always suitors. As to my father's decisions on any specific one, I am not aware. Perhaps you should ask him in time, he should be back within the week." she commented, settling back at his side, her fingers resting against his muscular bicep.
"I have just recently returned from Capri, there was some danger of disease in the city so we sought the refreshment of the coast. Once it cleared up I returned." she told him, "And what of you my dearest Lucius, have you found a betrothed during your time away?"
Lucius
He walked with her slowly very slowly.
"I am in if you my lady celebrate with me" he like her hung on her every word, how he had missed Rome. Roman women at best were a sight to see and that is the average but he had always thought of Anori as a goddess incarnate. No woman came close to her beauty. He liked the idea of celebrating it had been a long time since he had been in the house of her family. He had smiled even brighter when she had spoke of the suitors, her father had very high standards and to his knowledge none ever came close to measuring up. "I am also glad to hear that you were not affected by the disease in Capri" He took her scent in, intoxicating, nothing in the world like Roman women, and nothing like Anori in all of Rome or the world for that matter.
He stopped and looked at her when she asked about a bethrothed and said with a smile "I have no bethrothed, No women in all of the world are beautiful as those from Rome" he wanted to add about her beauty being unmatched in all of Rome. He didn't that would be a matter he would need to take up with her father. "I intend to not marry a foreign woman" He said at last after a moment of silence. It was not proper for a man of his standing. They had been childhood friends. Would it be right to tell her? Would it be disrespectful? He was torn, the last thing he wanted was to disrespect her
or her father.
Anori
Anori smiled to him once more, walking with him, casual conversation as they meandered through the marketplace, a few servants following behind as was the standard. It certainly wouldn't do for a lady such as Anori to be walking around alone, though with the mighty General at her side, she certainly would have none to fear.
"As you wish. We shall have great celebration tonight then." she glimpsed over to him with a smile. "Then I should not be of concern about plying you with too much wine tonight." she replied, in regards to his lack of a wife. Joking, of course.
"Perhaps my father would be of some assistance in regards to whom you could marry, if you are in fact looking to do so." she replied, playing along with the delicate dance. It certainly wasn't up to her regarding who she wed, or even her decision. If Lucius wished to marry her, it would be through her father it be made.
Lucius
He chuckled at the wine comment "I would not want to lose my wits when in such fine company as you M'lady"
He strolled with her in the marketplace, it was her father afterall who helped launch his military career He looked at her as he walked, he felt light, his eyes reflected it, his walk, his whole demeanor, anyone who knew him knew this was where he wanted to be, Not in Rome necessarily but in the company of Anori.
"I would like very much to speak with your father" he began he wanted to take a wife but not just any woman. That would not do "Perhaps he could point out a woman of such beauty and worth but if that woman does not have my heart then I shall not take a wife" He also had other matters to discuss and gifts. Her family had been like a surrogate family to him. Of course his own family did not live in Rome.
Anori
Anori nodded to him, walking with him out of the marketplace through the streets towards her villa. She had to admit, she was attracted to the soldier, she'd known him for many years, there had even been a bit of a crush in youth. However, as was norm, he went off to war, and she learned that her desires mattered little when it came to whom she wished to be with.
Her hands stayed with his arm as she walked with him, glimpsing over towards him as she allowed the powerful roman man to lead the way towards the fine villa, one of the largest in Rome no less. Servants were ready to open the gates as they stepped inside, her fingers loosened from his arm and moved up, drawing the covering from her head and allowing her radiant beauty to be seen more as she drew it from her body and handed it off to one of the servants. Her eyes lingered on Lucius' as she gave motion with her hand towards the seating area.
"Please. Rest. I shall have refreshments brought to you at once." she told him, giving him moment to go before she told her servants to prepare a proper meal, and bring some of the good wine.
After which she moved and joined Lucius where he sat, lounging next to him on the sofa as he looked to his eyes and smiled again. "As I made mention, my father should be home in a few days. For now it is just I." she added, giving a soft brush of the back of her finger along the soldier's arm, feeling his rugged warmth as her eyes lingered on his.
"But all this talk of marriage. Are you to retire to Rome Lucius?" she asked him.
Lucius
He walked with her and even after all this time the Villa looked as exactly as he remembered it. The place was beautiful. He did have a crush on her in his youth, but it never died he would not tell her that, at least Not yet. He knew that if he was to win her heart and the approval of her father he would have to make a name for himself first. He now was a mighty general his reputation spread through the entire empire. As far as he was concerned he was the best. He watched her draw her veil and her beauty like the sun itself radiated the entire house. She had motioned for him to sit and he did so, he removed his sandals as servants washed his feet. He always felt at home here.
He smiled at her as he watched her sit beside him and nodded at her words about her father. He smiled at her again as he spoke "Yes possibly or maybe out in the countryside, I am still unsure but no matter what I decide I will not be far." He paused "Unless Caesar has need of me" His eyes locked on hers so many words unspoken between the two He wanted to kiss her to tell her how he felt. His reveire was interrupted as he could hear heavy footsteps approaching He knew that no servant in this house would have such heavy footsteps, they were the footsteps of authority
"Is that your father I hear" he whispered to her
Anori
Anori grinned a bit, taking one of the grapes from the tray of fruit that was brought to them for snaking. Placing it in her mouth and eating it with a grin as she listened to Lucius' plans to settle. She nodded some, such a handsome face, perhaps it would be good to see the honored General settling down, retire peacefully, perhaps take a term of political office, certainly he'd have the name, the title, and the fame to even be a Senator. No wonder he wanted to speak with her father.
"Of course my dear Lucius. Though I find it hard to envision you discarding your armor for farm clothes." she smiled with a soft chuckle. "You will always be a mighty warrior to me." she smiled, though it faded as she heard the heavy footsteps. Her eyes widened some as she heard his suggestion that be her father.
"My father? Gods be, he must have cut his trip short if it is to be." Her head tilted in the direction she'd heard the steps coming from, looking to see if it were her father.
Lucius
He smiled and chuckled as it was his feet that were making the noise. It had been something that he had played on her since their youth and she had never fallen for it, chances are she probably was just playing along humoring him.
"I don't know exactly what I will do yet, I want to explore my options, maybe even go into politics or
maybe training Caesar's future soldiers, I dont know what my fate is to be but you are probably right Farming is really not my first choice but the gods will reveal their will to me I am sure" he plucked a grape from the tray and popped it into his mouth. The sweetness of the vine was refreshing and went to take a slice of cheese and a piece of bread.
"One reason why I want to speak with your father, as I need his sagely wisdom" he took a bite and let the flavors mesh with his taste buds. Then reaching for his cup and taking a sip of the good wine. "Your hospitality My Lady is as divine as always, Thank you" With that he took another sip from his cup
Anori
Anori glimpsed back to him, a small grin forming as she saw that grin on his face. She gave a playful push at his shoulder slightly with a bit of a chuckle, " You beast."
She nodded, lounging next to him as she watched him eat and enjoy himself of the refreshments. She nodded, her finger lightly playing along handsome Lucius arm just before she began to reply to him.
"And what wisdom of mine do you seek?" came a powerful, almost gruff voice from behind them, approaching as the powerful old man approached. He had once been a soldier, turned senator, grown old as one too.
His eyes strained to spot the two of them lounging, sharp as ever, but even he was taken a bit surprised. "Decius, is that you?" he questioned, letting his eyesight focus a bit better on him. "My boy, it has been years since I last lay eyes on you. I fear that my eyesight fails me, or I'd have welcomed you much sooner. Fortunately I see you've found yourself in my daughters exemplary care."
Lucius
He heard the voice of her father behind him and quickly rose and greeted him hugging him
"Yes sir it is I, I arrived in Rome just two days ago and your daughter found me in the marketplace and has taken great care of me" He had much respect for the old man. After they greeted the servants quickly offered him some refreshment and poured some wine for him, as he sat it was only then that Lucius sat back down.
"I have returned from the Northern Campaigns, and have been given my leave from Caesar and need your council sir" He continued "on my next course of action"
Marcus looked at the young man, he had been proud of him , he had sponsered him as his father had been his close friend for many years. He shook his head "You are wise to come to me boy" he began "Word of your exploits and reputation has been known through out the empire, you are in a prime position to choose whatever you wish, whether it is politics or whatever" he sipped the wine and looked at him and his daughter. He was old and his eyes failing him but he could see the way his daughter looked at the young General.
He looked at Anori "What do you think he should do Daughter?" Even though women had little say he learned along time ago that his daughter had insights that he did not.
Lucius sipped his cup and listened and nodded in agreement as Marcus had confirmed what he had suspected
Anori
Anori too rose to greet her father, placing kiss upon his cheek before settling back, taking a seat after her father and the General had. She was, of course, settled next to Lucius as she had been. Her father may have been old, his eyes failing, but he was no fool. He saw that look, the way Anori smiled. He remembered the two of them as kids, running through the house, laughter filling the marble rooms.
Days back when his wife was still alive, and much before his death he wished to hear the halls filled with laughter of children again. While his still functioned.
Anori was not expecting her father's question, she looked a bit taken off guard, before expertly recovering and placing a hand on Lucius' arm and glimpsing between the two important men in her life.
"Lucius has done many a great thing in his life father. I believe he should follow his instinct, it has not failed him yet, be it the will of the gods." she replied, bowing her head slightly and glimpsing back to Lucius, taking her own cup and drawing a drink of the wine.
Lucius
Marcus sipped his cup again and nodded, he looked to Lucius "Will you retire in Rome?" he asked the same as Anori had
Lucius sipped his cup again and set it down before answering the old man " I would like to be close to Rome if not in Rome, close to this place" He added "I have thought about politics but I am not schooled in the arena of Politics that seems to be the logical next step but I also know that the Academy needs a Headmaster" Both would keep him in Rome. "I do know one thing whatever I decide to do, I do know I want to take a wife and this world has no women like the women from Rome, and No Rome woman's beauty holds a candle to the beauty of your daughter" He paused "Sir I would like your blessing to take Anori as my bride" He looked at Anori and had just hoped that he had not angered the old man. He didnt see Anori as a trophy wife as most of her suitors had, Lucius loved her and had always loved her, he held out for her. He was not a man who reveled in vices, he kept himself above reproach, he kept himself to a high moral standard. Anything less he would have cheated on his heart
Anori
Anori's heart liked to have left out of her chest as she heard Lucius voice, his tongue speak those words. She brought her hand to her lips, covering a small gasp and look of sudden unexpectedness. While she might have felt it, it was often different to heard those words. She swallowed, her eyes captured by Lucius before looking to her father.
Marcus leaned back, a small deep groan as he relaxed back at the request. He held quiet for a moment before he glimpsed towards Anori. "Dearest daughter, I bid you leave us to discuss this matter." he told her.
Anori trembled as she got up, almost unable to stand but not faltering as she brushed her fingers along Lucius arm.
Once she was gone, the two would have their opportunity to speak of dowry, what was to be expected from both families. Certainly Marcus wished to secure a proper husband for his daughter, things had to be worked out. In the end, Marcus would pat the boy on the shoulder as the two walked down the long corridor through the house, columns on either side till they came upon Anori, who looked more nervous than anything.
Marcus hand extended to his daughter, whom placed it in his, his other hand took Lucius and guided them together, leaving them holding hands before he withdrew his hand and gave a nod to his daughter.
"I have given my permission and you are to be wed at the new week." he replied, his deep voice rumbling through.
"Being as it is to be so, I so no reason to deny any rights to your betrothal. You may do so with my blessings." he replied, giving one last pat to Lucius shoulder as he ambled his way off.
"The trip from Capri was long. I retire to my bed." he told them, a servant moving to help the Senator as they disappeared from view.
Once he had, Anori almost lept into Lucius' arms, wrapping her own around his neck as she kissed him, deeply, excitedly, there was to be no brighter of a smile upon her face.
Lucius
He watched as she rose his eyes never leaving hers , when she was gone he looked at her father and they had discussed dowries and what was expected, he had one thing above all the other suitors, he had made a name for himself first. The others had hoped to marry into fame and presteige, not Lucius. Finally after all that was discussed they walked to where Anori was and once he had retired
He kissed her back his arms wrapping around her his lips could not get enough of her, finally he could tell her the things he had always wanted to tell her. He caressed her cheek looking into his eyes "I Love You Anori, I've Always Loved You and today the gods have blessed me so richly that I do not think it would ever be matched" With that he kissed her again tenderly lovingly passionatly his heart raced it never would in the heaviest battles. He felt like he was dreaming but yet he was not. He never felt more content than he did right this very moment
Anori
Anori's lips stayed with Lucius' kissing him back just as longingly, epically, it had been years of tension building to that moment and when it released it was something of beauty. Her fingers brushed up along his jaw, holding touching him in ways she'd longed to do all those years ago. Her body trembled in his powerful grasp, held to him as she heard his voice.
"And I you Lucius. All these years." she whispered to him, her lips met back with his again, kissing him back just as intensely as she drew him with her, back across the corridor to her room, pulling him inside before shutting the door behind them. Her breathing was heavier, needy. Finally she could have him and he have her.
'Lucius.." she whispered to him, against his lips, kissing him again between speaking, "Have me. " she whispered, her voice begging him to do what she'd wanted for so long of him.
Anori was among the marketplace, walking, gazing amongst the wares being peddled as she caught glimpse of one, one she'd spent some time with in the past. Her lips curled to a grin as she meandered her way towards him, once within but arms grasp she laughed with great delight.
